De stad telt 9.634 inwoners.[2011]<\/p>\n<p>Runkel ligt in het Lahnvallei aan weerszijden van de rivier tussen Westerwald en Taunus , in het oosten van het Limburger Basin , ongeveer acht kilometer ten oosten van het stadsdeel Limburg . Waarschijnlijk was Siegfried de bouwer van Runkel Castle . Eindelijk 1230 had het kasteel een kapel, dat was het eerste Runkel kerkgebouw. In 1288 werden de heersers van Runkel en Westerburg gescheiden na jaren van familiegeschillen. De nog bestaande Lahnwehr werd in de 11e of 12e eeuw gecre\u00eberd om een \u200b\u200bmolen te bedienen.
